Trainee on board the ships

The majority of the crew onboard a Tall Ship in North Sea Tall Ships Regatta will consist of trainees. They will participate in the competition, learn many new things and meet new friends from different parts of the world.

The application for trainees is closed and the selection is done. 70 youths, mostly from Gothenburg but also from all around Sweden, will participate in North Sea Tall Ships Regatta 2016. Read more here >>

Still, there is the chance to become a trainee on board other Tall Ships events. Read more below.

What does it mean to be a trainee?

As a trainee, you will be part of the crew and get to experience the life and the tasks on board, as well as participate in the North Sea Tall Ships Regatta. We recruit mainly young people between 15 and 25 years. There is no requirement of previous sailing experience; all you need to bring is curiosity, gumption and the will to learn more about leadership, cooperation and communication. Trainees will experience the thrill and adventure of life on board a Tall Ship and be involved in almost every activity on board – taking the helm, setting sails and keeping watch, washing dishes or climbing the rigging! Whatever you’re doing you’ll have an experience you’ll never forget!

The ships sail from Blyth (UK) on August 29th and will arrive in Gothenburg on September 3rd where the event will continue until September 6th.

The majority of trainee costs are covered by the City of Gothenburg, sponsors and scholarships. The trainees themselves will, however, need to bear a small part of the cost on their own, for example the cost for the trip to Blyth.
